Chicago Style

A little bit of swimming, a picnic lunch, and dinner with Stephen’s boss today. If you find yourself in the Chicago/Schaumburg area… Lou Malnati’s is a must. For Stephen, one of the best parts about traveling is the opportunity to try new foods and restaurants. He enjoys searching for the best of the best, local favs and hole in the wall establishments hiding tastefully amazing grubs and cuisines. I’ve been telling him to start a food blog for years… but since he has not…

Lou Malnati’s is a very pleasurable experience. Although it’s loud and busy and we had to speak loudly to be heard by the persons sitting next to us, it didn’t feel hectic or crowded. The staff was friendly and the patrons were diverse. Families and young couples alike could be found enjoying the deep dish Chicago style deliciousness. The marinara for our calamari appetizer was terrific; hearty, fresh and with the perfect bit of tangy. We ordered a sausage pizza and the Lou; fresh spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and three cheeses. I’m no pizza connoisseur, but I’m pretty sure that comparing these slices to say… Pizza Hut or Little Caesar’s would be nothing short of an insult. The dough was like no-other; the hint of savory butter, soft on the inside, perfectly crispy on the out and exceptionally tasty (especially with the cheese cooked and melted right on top of it.) The sauce was flavorsome, full of zest and indisputably unlike your typical pizza sauce. And the cheese, oh my goodness, there was the perfect amount of stringy melted cheesiness in every mouthwatering bite… Three adults and five kids all had their fill and we even escaped with leftovers.
