Happy Breastfeeding Week y’all! I’ve loved all the posts and stories and mamas sharing their breastfeeding struggles and successes. Just this morning I read about a friend who hasn’t been able to induce lactation for her sweet boy, but has received an overwhelming amount of support and breastmilk donations. 👊🏽 Be it through community and/or lactation professionals, breastfeeding parents in America are finding more and more resources to help them through their journeys.
I want to bring that same culture to Nepal. I want mamas to know the plethora of health benefits that breastmilk offers, I want them to know that despite what they have been taught, breastmilk isn’t supposed to come in right after birth and that colostrum is absolutely adequate and nutritious, I want them to know the strategies for getting and a better latch before introducing shields and bottles, I want them to understand successful protocols for induced lactation, solutions to common struggles like nipple confusion or refusal, and breastfeeding after surgery or augmentation, I want them to know that that their breast size, shape or color is not a determining factor in whether or not they can breastfeed, and that breastmilk can be safely stored at room temperature for up to 10 hours. Oh, I can not wait to bring together the first breastfeeding support group!
